State Multi Event Championships in Albury on Sunday 2 nd March 2008
Collingwood at the Multi
Collingwood was represented by David Worthington in the State Multi Event Championships in Albury on Saturday 1 st March and Sunday 2 nd March 2008. He came 12 th overall out of a total list of 29 in the under-13 Boys section. He scored a total of 1257 points (according to the new Alberta system).
Organisation and Atmosphere
The event was extremely well organised. I would like to congratulate and thank all involved on an admirable effort. It was a splendid weekend, accompanied by autumnal temperatures in the mid-20s to late 20s. It was really pleasant to catch up with Graham and Steven from Knox and other people. (Steven was the one who took all the photos at the Knox Open Day, and, as a big Collingwood footy fan, took extra shots; he came to the Open Day at CLAC, too.)
Notable points
The highlight of the weekend for David was the pool where we stayed; they were kind enough to allow us back for a dip after the competition! One of the most amusing aspects of the Sunday was that on the way back we stopped at the McDonalds outlet at the freeway service area near Wangaratta; it was absolutely ‘chockers' with junior athletes, Multi officials and their families; queues of 10-12 people in four rows! It was as if we were all lining up for a 100m sprint. (Would you like fries with that?)
Multi
As for the Multi event itself (which remains totally ‘fry-less', in case parents are concerned), it is obviously a pentathlon, and therefore, by its very nature, a fine event for the developing all-round athlete. There were very nice T-shirts, last weekend, too! Highly recommended – the events as well as the T-shirts.
Team Manager
Being the Collingwood Team Manager was an honour and a privilege, but I seemed to have very little to do, even though I had an official badge on!
Canteen review
By the way, a good canteen – varied focacce and all, but they don't come better than the CLAC one! And, as a certain BBQ specialist might say, “ I'll bet they didn't have egg and bacon sandwiches ” ; they didn't!
