Did you know that your 2008/2009 Registration also covers you for the winter Cross Country season? Cross Country running is a fun and fabulous way to keep fit over the winter, and it's also a great way to get out and about and visit many of the Eastern Suburbs best parks. Collingwood competes in the “Eastern 7” competition, which comprises seven Eastern Metro Centres. The season officially kicks off on 19 April.

For more information, and to put your name down for Cross Country season, call our Cross Country manager Bev Scott on 9464 3571 and also check the Handbook.

Athlete achievement

The Athletics Victoria AVIS Development Squad aims to provide talented young athletes with a pathway from promising junior to elite senior athlete.  It's goal is to support emerging junior athletes and their coaches with the services and environment to fulfil their athletic potential.  Congratulations to Collingwood LAC's Zoe McWhinney who has been selected in this year's squad.  It's fantastic to see her making a great transition into the senior ranks.  Zoe also competes for the Collingwood Harriers senior club.

VLAA Junior Development Squad

The VLAA equivalent of the AVIS Development squad is the JDS – the Junior Development Squad.  The JDS is open to all athletes in the U12-U15 age groups who meet certain qualifying standards. U11 athletes may qualify any time during the season for entry into the JDS the following year.  A number of our Collingwood athletes are already members of this squad, and have found it to be of great value and also lots of fun!  So if you are interested in applying and you want to find out if you meet the qualifying standards click here. There is an application form on the VLAA website here.
